Sausage Potato Soup

9 ingredients (including salt and pepper!) are all you need to make a hearty soup that’s just downright delicious. And you only dirty a few dishes!


We all have those days (at least probably most of you) that you look in your fridge and pantry and all you see are some humble spuds (commonly known as potatoes), sausage, chicken broth, celery and onion. And occasionally some Frosted Flakes. But that’s a very, very rare occasion.

So what do you make?

Answer: soup. I could eat soup all week long.

Potatoes in soup are like little things of pure dynamite. Potatoes+sausage in soup are 10x better.



Btw let me remind you there are ONLY 9 ingredients including salt and pepper. Which are technically not ingredients in my book, but whatever. Oh, and you need to dirty: a cutting board, knife, spoon, measuring spoon, plate and a pot.

So easy, yet so epic.


You can always add some spinach or kale when you add the sausage, or add 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream when you add the sausage in.

Sausage Potato Soup

  • Servings: 8-10

1 lb ground sausage

1/2 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 cup chopped celery

3/4 cup chopped onion

7 potatoes, chopped into 1/2 inch pieces

6 cups chicken broth

salt and pepper, to taste

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes


  1. Put sausage in a pot and cook over medium heat until browned. Scoop sausage onto a paper towel lined plate.
  2. Add oil to pot. Add celery, pepper flakes and onion, and cook for about 5 minutes stiring every 30-45 seconds. Add potatoes and broth, and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cover pot with a lid, reduce to a simmer, and cook until potatoes are fork tender, about 50 minutes. Once the potatoes are done, add sausage. Serve!
